Villa Wilali : a Bliss for Families

If you have not visited our favourite part of Bali yet, we suggest you go and spend a few days on the Northwest coast, far from the crowds and traffic of the South. Villa Wilali is a spacious and ultra comfortable 4-bedroom villa nestled on the black sand beach of Pemuteran. The gardens of manicured lawns are welcoming and the grounds are perfect to play hide and seek for hours on end. The swimming pool at the front of the property on the beachside, with peaceful views of the sea, was the other highlight for our family.

Villa Wilali was built by a couple with children who thought about practical details to make it easy and comfortable for parents and kids. Unlike other villas in Bali, Villa Wilali has one main building with the kitchen, dining room and living room in the centre. The living room has a folding door that can be opened wide and, in the afternoon, when the heat can be too much, guests can close all doors and stay in the air-conditioned area doing quiet activities or taking a well deserved nap. During the day we took our meals at the Lumbung by the beach blessed by the cooling sea breeze whilst we chose to have our delicious dinners on the large terrace or inside. We were impressed with the quality of the food: the a la carte breakfast was copious and dinners were tasty with a varied range of dishes. Jero, the villa’s cook, delighted our children with excellent crumbed prawns and calamari, Soto ayam, chicken satay and pork satay with rice, Ayam Bali (chicken cooked in banana leaves) whilst we particularly loved the Beef Rendang, Pepes ikan (fish in banana leaves) and Nasi kuning (yellow rice - cooked with turmeric and shallots) with ayam goreng.

The set up works fantastically well for families with children. The four bedrooms can accommodate up to 11 people. The master and guest bedrooms give onto the garden with pool and sea views whilst the two other well-appointed bedrooms give onto the back garden. All bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms and toilets. One of the bedrooms has two single beds and two extra beds can be used in any of the bedrooms. At the guests disposal the villa has 2 baby cots, a high chair, children eating utensils, children life jackets (5 in total), some sand toys and a man-made swing up on the tree in garden. The manager Pak Putra is extremely helpful, speaks good English and can be called anytime to help in any way.

If you love to rest, recharge your batteries, swim or soak in the sun, you can just make the most of Vila Wilali and its excellent facilities. Our children are, however, more on the physical side which led us to explore the area and the activities on offer. What an excitement it was to visit the small turtle hatchery at Reefseen, go horse riding on the beach and go out to sea on the villa’s traditional boat to snorkel on a safe reef and see a myriad of brightly coloured fish. If your family enjoys snorkelling, a must is to explore the biorocks coral rehabilitation area off Pemuteran beach. What fun it was to look for the most surreal and fantastical submerged metal structures with their new coral and fish population… and as if all this wasn’t enough, the dads and kids decided to take a day trip to climb the Ijen Kawah volcano in Java! They set off at 4am and returned by the late afternoon, tired but exhilarated by the experience, with their pockets filled with sulphur rocks. This was definitely a story to blast their friends back at school.

And we’ll be back at Villa Wilali for sure!
